Volunteer as a Park Champion!
Spend one day a year or a few hours each day, week or month taking part in a Park Champion project. Do it single-handedly, or get a group of friends together. You’ll have fun and get fit while helping us hold our ground. You and your family or friends can help root out invasive plants, rebuild trails and restore native plants in our parks. While the parks may look lush and green, these urban natural areas are dying and in desperate need of your help. Even if you’ve never volunteered before, or you’ve never planted a tree, you can protect the future of Louisville’s Olmsted Parks!
Don’t have a green thumb or don’t like to get dirty?
Volunteer to help in our office with mailings, data entry, and event coordination. Or come out to help us with education and outreach, volunteer at our informational booths at neighborhood festivals!

Adopt an Area in the Parks
If you’re ready for a lasting commitment to the parks you love, organize a group and join our Olmsted Parks Adoption Program. Your small or large group will take on a specific park area tailored to your interests and the needs of the park. Projects last one year or longer and involve at least six work sessions each year. It’s an excellent program for school groups, families, co-workers, or community organizations.Volunteer Highlights
Janet Dakan became a member of Olmsted Parks Conservancy in 2004, and began volunteering in our office in the fall of 2007. In just six months she has volunteered 326 hours, which is a Conservancy record!
Janet has helped in many ways, including tidying up our donor database, a painstaking task that she tackled with enthusiasm. Of her time with the Conservancy, Janet says she enjoys the variety of tasks, feeling of accomplishment, and the friendly atmosphere. She sees the Olmsted parks as an important ecological, social and recreational resource for our community.
Janet is an active member of the community, volunteering for several other organizations, including the Metropolitan Housing Coalition and YMCA Safe Place. In her spare time, she enjoys short walks around Tyler Park, listening to classical and jazz music, and playing with her cat Gabby.
The staff of Olmsted Parks Conservancy is delighted to have Janet in our midst, and we thank her for her service, generosity and friendship.

Restoring health to our woodlands, ponds, meadows and other natural areas takes a lot of hands-on effort. We need YOUR help too!
